My beloved beast (a mountaineer) went kablooie beyond my ability to fix it. Stupid computerized cars. I'm now frantically car shopping. My husband already vetoed the magnum because gas mileage.

And I want to smack the car dealers that are ignoring me to talk to my husband.

Isn't that basically the Explorer rebadged as a Mercury? The mileage on the Magnum can't be any worse than that...

Oh, I hate the dealers as well. One of the Mercedes Dealers told my mother that the C63 is not a woman's car and suggested something more "feminine." The nerve of that man.

Yeah, I dunno why car sales people (I guess particularly sales men) are so sexist.

I've bought 2 cars this year for myself (a '13 BMW 135is and a '99 Jeep Grand Cherokee), and helped my gf lease a '13 Honda Civic. The best experience by far was when I got my BMW. Sales lady did a great, no-pressure job. Finance manager dude tried to hard sell me on window tint. No sale.

The worst experience was when I got my Grand Cherokee as a "bargain" car at a Kia dealer. They tried to hard sell me on extended warranties, maintenance plans, and gap coverage on a $4200 used car, by putting it in terms of monthly payments rather than telling me the overall cost. They also made a bunch of paperwork errors with my credit union that had already pre-approved me for a loan. The credit union eventually sorted it out but still.

In the middle was getting my gf's Civic. The Honda store was owned by the same company as my BMW dealer. A bit more dickering around on price than at BMW. I helped my gf with the numbers part, and as soon as I started talking money with the sales guy he practically forgot my gf was even there. I actually had to ask him to give us a minute so I could go over money with her without him trying to convince me of stuff, when it wasn't even my car.

Now testing a Kia sorento. Don't want to deal with a sunroof if winsconsin. Plus the suspension was shot on the vibe.

just dazzle the salesdorks with tough questions.

Ask about HP, then ask if it's at the wheels or the crank.

Or just look pretty or something and then hardball the fuck out of them come negotiation time.

Sunroofs are awesome though :p

If you're looking at the Sorento, consider the Rondo as well. One of the only late model cars that actually has visibility!

It's between the sorento and a Pacifica now. I like bells and whistles and the Pacifica has bells and whistles. I like heated leather seats.

My internship boss literally shipped the computer inside his wife's car to Canada and someone jailbroke it and got him better gas mileage.

Gotcha. i've had good experiences, but i live in SoCal, the land of car dealerships, so lots of competition ;)
